Neck Pain

Neck pain is one of the most common conditions we see as Chiropractors. Almost everyone will develop neck pain at some point in their life whether this becomes a long term issue or something that last a few hours after sleeping badly. What causes neck pain and what can you do if the pain isn’t going away?

What Causes Neck Pain?

The neck is a complicated structure made up of bones, joints, ligaments and muscles. These structures all integrate together to allow you to move your head and can cause pain if injured. Injury to these structures within your neck can be caused by many things but most commonly this will occur from long term poor posture or direct trauma to the neck such as whiplash from a car accident.

In this video I go through my top 4 tips for getting relief if you have you’ve had a sudden onset of neck pain. If it doesn’t resolve, there may be something underlining the problem. Please do get in contact and we’ll be happy to help

Neck Pain

A very common injury mechanism that is often seen is what is now referred to as “text neck”. With the amount of time the average person spends on their phones, we are spending a lot of time looking down. As you can see in the following image, the amount of weight put on your neck increases exponentially the further the head goes forwards. This sustained over a long period of time will eventually cause injury to the ligaments, joints and muscles of the neck. One easy tip to reduce this risk is to bring the phone up to your eye level as oppose to bringing your neck down to your phone. This can make a dramatic difference and avoid pain in the future.

When you get an issue in the neck, you will more often than not, get tightness in the muscles. This means that you will usually get a combination of muscle tightness and joint dysfunction even though the pain may be coming from one or the other. Either way, a Chiropractor can help but improving the overall mechanics of the spine.

How Can A Chiropractor Help With Neck Pain?

Chiropractors are trained to assess the mechanics and neurological integrations of your neck to find out exactly what’s causing the pain and then how to fix it. The primary tool used is the Chiropractic adjustment. This is only applied after a thorough assessment is done to ensure certainty on it’s application.
