Plantar Fasciitis

Plantar fasciitis is simply when too much load is put on the sheet of tissue (called fascia) on the bottom of your foot. This produces pain on the bottom of the foot, normally around the heel, which is worse with walking or putting weight on that foot. Typically it’s worse with the first few steps in the morning.

What Causes Plantar Fasciitis?

The pain comes from the fascia under the foot being inflammed due to the increase load to the fascia. Often this increased load is caused by a mechanical fault somewhere in your foot, ankle, knee or lower back. Therefore this whole chain has to be assessed to find the cause. Typically there will be an increase tension in the hamstring, calf leading to the fascia of the sole of the foot. Muscles don’t simply work in isolation but as a chain and thus tightness in one muscle can cause the entire chain to become tight.

In this video I go through 6 ways in which you can get some relief from plantar fasciitis from home. The main reason why it occurs is due to the increased pressure at the back of the leg. Therefore one of the most effective exercises I find helpful is a stretch to the back of the entire leg that I go through in this video.

How Can A Chiropractor Help With Plantar Fasciitis?

Chiropractors are experts in assessing the spine, hip, knees and ankles for dysfunction that may be contributing to the increased pressure on the plantar fascia. By addressing this entire chain tends to give much better results than if we simply only look at the foot.

If you are suffering with this condition and it’s just not going away, there’s a good chance you have something preventing the fascia from healing. Please do get in contact and I’ll be happy to help.
